How the calculation works

ROI on a wellness program ≈ (% reduction in absenteeism × salary base) + (% reduction in attrition × replacement cost) − (program cost). If that number is positive after 6 months, you've validated the program. The three assumptions baked in are deliberately conservative:

  • Absenteeism reduction: 10% — peer-reviewed studies put this at 14-27%; we use 10% to be cautious.
  • Attrition reduction: 0.5 percentage points — small but well-documented for engaged-employee programs.
  • Employee replacement cost: 50% of annual salary — industry standard for tech / services roles.
